Using Fathom in the Classroom |
In addition to the general
requirements for participating in Math Teacher Link, this module
also has the following requirement:
- The Fathom Dynamic Statistics Software needs to
be installed on the computer you will use.
Go to the Fathom
Dynamic Statistics home page of Key Curriculum Press, the
makers of the software. This page has information, resources
and support for Fathom Dynamic Statistics software. Follow
the
information and pricing link to order the current version of
Fathom software for either your Mac or Windows machine ($119.95 -
single user). Install the program on your machine according to the
instructions that come with the program.
- The Macromedia Flash Player needs to be installed
on the computer you will use.
Go to the
Macromedia Flash Website , download and install the Flash
Player that is appropriate for your browser. The Flash Player
is free.
- Microsoft Excel 5.0 or Higher
Microsoft provides academic discounts on their software.
You can check the academic pricing by clicking on
this link
. The price for Excel is around $129 for the PC or the
Mac. You can purchase the product at most office supply stores
as well as at major discount retailers. You might also want to
check with the Technology Coordinator in your school district for
possible special pricing. For example, in Illinois, with some
additional red tape teachers can buy products through a special
pricing that ISBE has negotiated with Microsoft. Office Pro
2000, which then includes Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and Power
Point can be purchased for approximately $75 ( $50 for the
license and $25 for the CD used to install it ). Clicking on

Pricing site for details. Prior to ordering we recommend
making a phone call to the location indicated in their website, to
make sure you are ordering the correct license and CD for Office Pro
2000
